Emerging Adults

Emerging adulthood can feel like standing at a crossroads, unable to see down either path.

You might find yourself asking, "Who am I? What do I believe? What do I want? And why does everyone else seem so much more sure of themselves than I am?" This stage of life is full of major transitions, such as leaving home, starting or finishing school, beginning careers, and navigating dating and friendships. For queer and neurodivergent young adults, it can also mean unlearning who you thought you were and figuring out who you really are.

There’s so much pressure to pick the "right" path, to be productive, and to figure it all out quickly. Inside, you might feel scattered, anxious, or like you’re falling behind. Many emerging adults I work with talk about intense internal conflict. One part wants independence, another wants safety. One part wants to take risks, another is terrified of failure. The back-and-forth between these parts can leave you feeling stuck.

Therapy can be a place to slow down in the middle of all that noise. Using internal family systems (IFS) therapy, we can explore the different parts of you that are shaping your present so that you can have more choice in shaping your future. Together, we create space for fear, experimentation, doubt, and growth. The goal isn’t to map out your entire life. It’s to help you build a grounded relationship with yourself so that wherever you go next, the real you is actually present.
